Sacred Art – visit the most valuable Christian art collections and places of Budapest and the countryside – the Christian Museum in the Primate’s palace of Esztergom is the richest ecclesiastical collection of Hungary – a real hidden treasure. The Treasury of Esztergom Cathedral presents the masterpieces of our medieval goldsmiths some of them used for centuries during coronation ceremonies. The late gothic winged  altarpieces displayed in the former Throne Hall of Royal Palace reflect devotion and help to understand the spiritual life or concern of medieval people – passion, legends, saints and symbols but also everyday life or nature, fabulous colors…presented by unknown masters…book my Easter-tailored tour to the Danube Bend!

With Easter approching we are getting into the mood of decorating eggs – or at least watching others doing so…well, egg-shoeing is a real Hungaricum – the tradition was started by Hungarian blacksmiths who shoed eggs with miniature horseshoes – you can observe them in action on the Budapest Spring Market or at the Szentendre Open Air Museum or see their works in folk art shops  Learn more about the Hungarian traditional arts and crafts in the Museum of Ethnography (V., Kossuth L tér 12.) or at the National Folkdance Festival&Fair in Budapest (2-3 April, Arena, www.tanchaztalalkozo.hu)
